Kyle Weatherman will drive JD Motorsports’ No. 4 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250 Xfinity race at Nashville Superspeedway

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Kyle Weatherman, a young driver with many miles of experience in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will drive JD Motorsports’ No. 4 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250 Xfinity race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Weatherman replaces Garrett Smithley in the bright red, black and white No. 4 Chevy. Weatherman, 25, is a possibility to drive the car for the rest of the season.

Weatherman has raced in five Xfinity Series seasons and has logged three top-10 finishes. He has driven in 11 Cup Series races and has totaled 25 top fives (including a win) in the ARCA Menards Series.

“We’re confident we’ll have a good run Saturday at Nashville with Kyle,” said JD Motorsports owner Johnny Davis. “This is a change as we look forward to the second half of the season, and we’re hoping this will work out for the best for all involved. This series only gets tougher, and we’re putting everything together to give the 4 team their best shot.”

Smithley has been a part of several seasons for JD Motorsports and has helped put the organization in a position to succeed in a tough racing environment.

“Garrett has been an important part of this team and what it’s been able to do over the years,” Davis said. “We appreciate the input he has had, the strength and smarts he’s shown on the racetrack and the network of people and sponsors he’s brought along. We wish him only the best.”

The 1.33-mile Nashville track offers a unique challenge with its concrete surface.

The No. 4 car will carry sponsorship from Trophy Tractor, Dozer Winch, TailGreeter, Page Construction, Hoffmann Tools, RFID Solutions, ClearView Asset Protection and PCA RX.

“We’ll be riding with a good group of sponsors for Nashville, and that market is one of the best of the year for the series,” Davis said. “It should be a big weekend.”

Moonshine and Motorsports Trail and JD Motorsports partner to take on Charlotte Motor Speedway

Moonshine and Motorsports Trail and JD Motorsports partner to take on Charlotte Motor Speedway

Raleigh, N.C. - JD Motorsports and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources have teamed up to bring awareness to North Carolina’s Moonshine and Motorsports Trail.

Moonshine and Motorsports Trail branding will be featured on JD Motorsports driver Brennan Poole’s No. 6 Chevrolet entry in the Xfinity Series’ Alsco 300 race, Saturday, May 27.

The newly created Moonshine and Motorsports Trail highlights North Carolina’s unique connection to distilling and stock car racing. Distilling grew out of the state’s rich agriculture, and stock car racing originated from occasional competitions among speed-hungry moonshiners during the 1930s. Nearly a century later, stock car racing has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry that attracts legions of devoted followers across the nation and world.

The Moonshine and Motorsports Trail celebrates North Carolina’s indelible role in stock car racing’s growth, spotlighting several landmarks that illustrate North Carolina’s one-of-a-kind motorsports offerings and distilling history. The first stops on the trail include Occoneechee Speedway, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Rockingham Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway, Museum of the Albemarle, Stone Mountain State Park and the North Carolina Museum of History.

“The Moonshine and Motorsports Trail celebrates both the history and the bright future for North Carolina’s distilling and racing industries,” said DNCR Secretary Reid Wilson. “We’re excited to promote the trail to race fans at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is a location on the trail.”

“I’m excited to be behind the wheel of the No. 6 Moonshine and Motorsports Trail Chevy,” said Poole, who recently celebrated his 100th start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. “It is great to be able to represent an initiative that is focused on educating our community on the cultural and financial impact racing has had and continues to have on the state of North Carolina.”

Racing fans can also learn more about the Moonshine and Motorsports Trail through a series of vlog-style YouTube videos being filmed by Eric Estepp, the host of Out of the Groove. Estepp’s videos are appearing on his popular YouTube channel throughout the month of May. Videos and recaps of his journey on the Moonshine & Motorsports Trail can also be found at www.dailydownforce.com/moonshineandmotorsports

Additional information about the Moonshine and Motorsports Trail can also be found at https://www.ncdcr.gov/explore/trip-ideas/moonshine-and-motorsports-trail

The Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway is live on FS1, PRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Ch. 90) on Saturday, May 27 at 1 p.m. EST.

JD Motorsports will welcome back an old friend Garrett Smithley and marketing partner Trophy Tractor

JD Motorsports will welcome back an old friend Garrett Smithley and marketing partner Trophy Tractor

Gaffney SC - JD Motorsports will welcome back an old friend Garrett Smithley and marketing partner Trophy Tractor for the remainder of the 2023 season starting with this weekend's Raptor 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Georgia driver Smithley, who ran four full Xfinity seasons with JDM from 2016 to 2019, is returning to JDM in the No. 4 Chevrolet at AMS, one of NASCAR’s fastest tracks.

Smithley will be teammates with Brennan Poole, who drives the JDM No. 6 Chevy.

Smithley, a steady, consistent driver who rarely ran into on-track issues in his previous stint with JDM, helped the team keep its goal of finishing strong at tracks across the demanding Xfinity schedule.

“It’s great to have Garrett back,” said team owner Johnny Davis, who is a veteran presence in NASCAR’s No. 2 level series. “He’s easy to work with, has the talent to get the most out of our race cars and knows when to go and when to be patient. We’re excited to pick up where we left off with him, Preparing fast, reliable cars to race.”

Smithley is a veteran with 146 Xfinity starts including fifth and eighth-place finishes at Daytona International Speedway and a pair of 12th place finishes at Talladega Superspeedway with JDM.

Since its 2022 renovation, Atlanta Motor Speedway fits into the superspeedway category. Elevated banking in the turns has made the track much faster and has brought pack-like racing to the track.

"I can't wait to get back to Atlanta Motor Speedway," said Smithley, who began his racing career at Atlanta. "Old Atlanta was my favorite track, but running the cup last year on the new surface was valuable, and I'm excited to take what I learned to JDM."

About Brand South Africa

Brand South Africa was established in August 2002 to help create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa. At that time, the world was unsure about what to think of South Africa, with many different messages being sent out by various sources. This did very little to build the country’s brand and it was evident that to attract tourism and investment there was a need to coordinate marketing initiatives to make them more effective. This led to the creation of Brand South Africa, whose main objective is the marketing of South Africa through the Brand South Africa campaign. There are many benefits to having a consolidated brand image, with the most important being that a consistent Brand South Africa message creates strategic advantages in terms of trade and tourism for the country in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
