The JD Motorsports NASCAR Xfinity Series team has a long and strong history

Despite being based outside the stock car racing center of Charlotte, North Carolina, JD Motorsports has fielded cars from its facility outside Gaffney, South Carolina for decades and has been a reliable mainstay in the Xfinity Series for a quarter-century.

The JDM facility near the South Carolina-North Carolina state line remains functional as team owner Johnny Davis, whose long tenure in NASCAR predates his move into team ownership, works toward reorganizing the team’s finances and direction after filing for bankruptcy protection.

“We’re here working toward racing,” Davis said. “Racing has been a part of my life since I heard the first race engine. It’s what we want to do, and we want to do it well. We want strong cars and a strong program we can sustain.”

A former NASCAR Cup Series mechanic and pit crew member, Davis has been a full-time Xfinity team owner since 2002 and has contributed to the careers of such drivers as Ross Chastain, Ryan Preece, Landon Cassill and Jeremy Clements. Chastain, a four-time winner and championship challenger in the Cup Series, is JD Motorsports’ most noteworthy “graduate,” having sprinted to stardom in NASCAR’s top series after years of seasoning with the Davis team. Typically, the team has entered two Chevrolets in every Xfinity race, its bright red cars easily spotted on track.

“It has been a particular point of pride in our shop that drivers have started here and gone on to do very well,” Davis said. “We give people a launching pad.”

Davis said lagging purses and rising expenses have made it increasingly difficult to compete in the Xfinity Series, particularly for teams that sometimes struggle to keep up with the sport’s more monied operations.

“What we are able to gather in sponsorship and the small winnings from purses can’t keep us doing what and how we want to do,” he said. “It’s simply a matter of math.”

During the reorganization period, Davis is continuing to build race cars and focus on what’s happening in the sport and how his reorganized team can fit in. “Some of the biggest companies in the country have reorganized through bankruptcy,” Davis said. “We’re pushing forward.”

Thomas Annunziata will take on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle this weekend with Criswell Chevrolet Buick GMC

Thomas Annunziata will take on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle this weekend with Criswell Chevrolet Buick GMC

Thomas Annunziata, one of the country’s most promising young racers, will take on Pocono Raceway’s Tricky Triangle this weekend with the support of one of the nation’s leading automobile dealerships.

In Saturday’s Explore The Pocono Mountains 225 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono, Annunziata will ride with the colors of Criswell Chevrolet Buick GMC, a nationally recognized and respected dealership located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Annunziata, who turned 19 June 14, will be in the JD Motorsports No. 4 Chevrolet in his first Xfinity Series start at Pocono, a very fast triangular track that poses some of the toughest challenges in the world of oval racing.

“With the backing of Criswell Chevrolet and the solid support of the Criswell family, we’re expecting a lot at Pocono,” said Annunziata, a successful driver in Trans Am and ARCA racing who’s knocking on the door of NASCAR’s top series. “I’ve never had a partnership as strong as this one with Criswell. They bring their best every day at their dealership, and I’m sure we’ll represent them well at Pocono.”

Although Criswell is located in Maryland, north of Washington, D.C., its reputation is nationwide. Customers across the country depend on Criswell for the best pricing and inventory that offers a multitude of choices. Criswell, family owned since 1972, has been named GM Dealer of the Year every year since the inception of the award. It is one of the largest commercial truck dealers in the Mid-Atlantic and the third largest Corvette dealer in the U.S.

“Everybody in the car business knows about Criswell,” said Johnny Davis, JD Motorsports owner and a veteran of the Xfinity Series. “We’ve raced Chevrolets forever, and it’s an honor for us to have the Criswell name associated with our team and the No. 4 Chevrolet. This is a big boost for us and for Thomas, one of the brightest young drivers in the country. It’s a pairing and partnership that should result in big things.”

Annunziata, a native of Colts Neck, New Jersey, has joined JD Motorsports and its Gaffney, South Carolina-based operation with plans to use his background in Trans Am and ARCA racing to build a new foundation in NASCAR. He raced in early June with JDM at Sonoma Raceway in California, finishing 34th after transmission problems. In three ARCA races this year, he has scored a pair of top-five finishes, including a close second place at Daytona International Speedway in February.

“We hope to keep building on what we’ve done already this year,” Annunziata said. “Racing for me at the moment is about getting in the track time and piling up the laps and learning everything I can. With Criswell’s support, we can go further faster.”

JD Motorsports has been effective in helping young drivers reach their dreams. Among those who have piloted JDM cars are Ross Chastain, Landon Cassill, Sheldon Creed, Jeremy Clements, Mike Wallace and Joe Nemechek.

“Thomas clearly has what it takes to make it big in stock car racing,” Davis said. “He’s young, but he understands race cars and what it takes to push them to the next level. With the help this week of Criswell Chevrolet, we’re looking to give him a great ride.”

Qualifying for the 90-lap race is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the race to follow at 3 p.m.

Trans Am Series Star Thomas Annunziata Takes on the Chicago Street Course With JD Motorsports

Trans Am Series Star Thomas Annunziata Takes on the Chicago Street Course With JD Motorsports

Gaffney, NC—Road courses can be some of the most challenging tracks for NASCAR drivers, and the Chicago Street Course is even more difficult than most.

That’s why Trans Am Series and ARCA Series regular Thomas Annunziata will once again team up with JD Motorsports for an exciting NASCAR Xfinity Series race, and this time they’re headed to the windy city.

The New Jersey native driver is pursuing a full-time career in the upper echelons of NASCAR, and he’ll be getting another taste of it behind the wheel of the Opti-Coat No. 6 Chevy Camaro for the second annual The Loop 110 this Saturday. The 19-year-old Italian-American may have gotten a late start in racing compared to many other drivers, but he’s impressed many around the garage even in his short time in the sport.

“We’ve heard the buzz around Thomas and we’ve seen it up close for ourselves,” said team owner Johnny Davis. “He’s got a very unconventional story, and I’m excited to help him write this chapter.”

To make this all happen, Annunziata and JD Motorsports have partnered with Opti-Coat Ceramic Coating, The Daily Downforce’s YouTube channel, Chicago Food Guide, America’s Vet Dogs and BOOSTane to send him to Chicago with a sleek finish and a fresh style.

“Opti-Coat and the other partners really have delivered me a slick-looking car,” said Annunziata. “I love the Daily Downforce YouTube videos, and they’re even bringing along some of their friends to join me. So Chicago is going to be a blast.”

The Chicago Food Guide, one of the windy city’s most popular food content creators, is excited to put its mark on a race car as well.

“Thomas and Johnny are bringing this incredible NASCAR show to Chicago,” said Amin Tomalieh of the Chicago Food Guide, “and I’ll be with them to make sure Chicago delivers them some incredible food.”

Tune in to watch the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Chicago Street Course on Saturday, July 6, at 2:30 p.m. The race will be broadcast on USA, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Ch. 90).

JD Motorsports Welcomes Thomas Annunziata at Sonoma Raceway

JD Motorsports Welcomes Thomas Annunziata at Sonoma Raceway

Thomas Annunziata, who came within a few car lengths of claiming a win in his first major-league stock car race in February at Daytona International Speedway, aims to get another chance at success June 8, this time with JD Motorsports.

Annunziata, a promising 18-year-old driver from Colts Neck, New Jersey, is entered in a JD Motorsports Chevrolet in the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 Xfinity Series race on the Sonoma Raceway road course. The race will mark his debut in the Xfinity Series.

Annunziata, who has had success from go-karts to sports cars, is building toward a career at the top levels of NASCAR, and he hopes to take the next step by joining team owner Johnny Davis and his veteran Xfinity Series crew. Cup star Ross Chastain is a spotlighted driver among those who raced for Davis on the way up the ladder. Others include Mike Wallace, Landon Cassill, Joe Nemechek, Sheldon Creed and Jeremy Clements.

Annunziata showed his potential in the ARCA Racing Series opener in February at Daytona. Racing against ARCA veterans and a string of newcomers like himself, Annunziata was sitting in seventh as the field took the green and white flags together for the race’s final lap. Chaos erupted in front of Annunziata as the front pack raced along the backstretch. As several cars wrecked, Annunziata alertly dropped to the inside of the track to avoid the collision. The race ended under caution, with Gus Dean, who was out front, taking the win and Annunziata rolling home a surprising second place.

“I had never raced on a fast oval, and it was definitely interesting,” Annunziata said. “It was almost like ‘Days of Thunder’. I just kept my foot in it. I could have been on the wrong side of that.”

A regular on the Trans Am circuit, Annunziata’s goal is to move up through NASCAR’s series to eventually reach Cup. The JD Motorsports team has been effective in helping drivers reach their dreams.

“Our team has always been attuned to the idea of developing new talent,” Davis said. “Ross Chastain and others have honed their skills with us. We’re looking for Thomas to be one of the next in line. I’ve been impressed with the talent he’s shown even as a young driver.”

“I’ve been waiting on this forever,” Annunziata said. “Watching ‘Days of Thunder’ and ‘Talladega Nights’ growing up, and watching Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson race NASCAR, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“Being able to race with Johnny Davis’ team will give me a crazy amount of experience in a series right below Cup. I’ll be with some of the best drivers in the country. The cars are heavier than Trans Am, and I’ll be learning all the ins and outs of NASCAR. It will be huge for me.”

NASCAR Xfinity Series team JD Motorsports has partnered with Prolube, a all-in-one friction reducing oil treatment, to sponsor Dawson Cram's No. 4 Chevrolet in the Crown Royal Purple Bag Project 200 on Saturday, May 11th.

The red, white, and black No. 4 will race with an iconic checkered strip in tribute to Prolube owner Paul Wireman’s own street stock he still turns laps in at 83 years young.

“We're excited to join forces with NASCAR's rising star Dawson Cram. With every drop of Prolube Oil Treatment coursing through his racecar, it ignites a symphony of performance and precision,” said Eli Wireman of the Prolube family. “With Prolube Oil on his side, there's no limit to what Dawson can achieve on the track."

Dawson Cram is an Xfinity Series rookie of the year candidate in his first year as a full-time driver with JD Motorsports. The son of former NASCAR Cup Series crew chief Kevin Cram, Dawson is excited to be representing Prolube and carry their legacy of racing success.

“I am excited to welcome Prolube into the sport for their first race. I am equally excited to be attempting my 6th start at the Lady in Black!” Cram added, “Darlington is always a special one for me. Growing up going to the Southern 500 with my family, I have many fond memories there.”

Tune in to watch the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway on Saturday, May 11th, at 1:30 p.m. The race will be broadcast on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Ch. 90)

About Prolube

During the late 1980s, Paul Wireman partnered with experts to engineer an oil additive that would significantly reduce the friction in motors. He began experimenting with different variations until the perfect formula was created. He found that his discovery increased engine life, lengthened time between oil changes, and not to mention, gave his cars that edge to outperform the competition. What was once an idea to fulfill his own need as a driver transpired into what is now known as Prolube Oil Treatment. www.prolubeoil.com

JD Motorsports

Team Owner Johnny Davis first began fielding the No. 4 car in what is now the Xfinity Series in 1983, with Joe Henry Thurman as the driver. From 1983-1985, Davis and Thurman competed in 41 races and put the JD Motorsports name on the map. Although JDM has seen a sharp rise in on-track performance in the past few years, success is nothing new to this team. Years of good drivers and excellent runs have paved the way for what JDM is today.  www.teamjdmotorsports.com
